1st ASEAN Peace World Cycling Tour (That Luang, Vientiane, May 13, 2018)
(KPL ) The 1st ASEAN Peace World Cycling Tour was held in Vientiane on May 13. The opening ceremony of the event saw the presence of President of the 1st ASEAN Cycling Club Datu C Theva, Vice Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Bouangeun Xaphouvong and more than 100 cyclists from ten ASEAN member states.
“I would like to thank the government of the Lao PDR and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism for allowing us to hold the 1st ASEAN Peace World Cycling Tour in the Lao PDR here in Vientiane,” said Mr Datu C Theva.
This event is the tenth of its kind with the first one held in Thailand in 2012, second in Singapore in 2013, third in Cambodia 2013, Philippines and Indonesia 2014, Vietnam and Brunei 2015, Myanmar 2016, and ninth in Malaysia 2017.
ASEAN is the world’s seventh-largest economic market and has been expected to become the fourth-largest economic bloc by 2030 and tourism is one of the main sources of income for many ASEAN nations, according to Vice Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Bouangeun.
The government of Laos has designated 2018 as Visit Laos Year to promote tourism industry and attract more visitors to the country.
“Today we are witnessing another development in the tourism industry, called Sports Tourism. The growing number of cyclists from ASEAN member states taking part in this event reflects the importance of the unity among the youth in ASEAN,” said Vice Minister Bouangeun.
