(KPL) Japan will continue making every effort to support the Lao PDR by promoting the connectivity, financial stability, human resources development, green Mekong and ASEAN economic integration.
The statement was made by Japanese Ambassador to Laos, Mr Takeshi Hikihara at a farewell reception in Vientiane Capital on August 21, 2019.
In his speech, Ambassador Takeshi expressed his deepest appreciation for the kind support and cooperation by people, Party and government of the Lao PDR and diplomatic corps.
He look back on bilateral relations during his tenure, which have been substantially strengthened in many fields including political dialogue, economic cooperation, private investment and people to people exchange , based upon the “Strategic partnership” that was agreed in 2015 on occasion of the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
“During my tenure, the Lao PDR, under the leadership of President Bounnhang Vorachit and Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, has been able to foster social stability and consistent growth. In 2016, the Lao PDR achieved its first ever historic ASEAN Chairmanship and was able to successfully promote its central role in ASEAN, as well as its geographical location in center of the region,” said Ambassador Takeshi.
“During my time here around 10 Japanese companies a year decided to invest in Laos, making a grand total 162 Japanese firms currently investing in the Lao PDR,” said the ambassador.
He assured government officials and members of diplomatic corps that his successor Mr Keizo Takewaka would continue the duty of actively furthering and promoting the bilateral relations between Laos and Japan.
