(KPL) Party and Government have attached special importance to educational development through raising to new heights the quality of teaching and learning thus developing human resources according to the requirements of national development and graduating the country from the least developed country status, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith has said.
Though the country faced several difficulties brought about by natural disasters with educational structures affected, the educational sector has recorded several achievements, PM pointed out in his annual remarks on the occasion of opening 2019-2020 academic year. These included the development of grade one curriculum for primary schools, the addition of vocational subjects for upper secondary school classes, and the raising of educational quality to the same level with countries in the region.
“We are glad to see that at regional and international educational competition arenas, Lao students have won several major awards for our country. In addition, last academic year, the dropout rate among grade-1 students was decreased, the enrolment rate of under-5 children was increased, students enrolled in vocational courses rose. This represents that learning perspectives and trends have been oriented in line with the national socio-economic development plan,” said Prime Minister.
He appreciated educational administrators at all levels, educational institutes, public and private organisations, people of all ethnic groups and students for their active contribution to making such achievements.
He also expressed gratitude to development partners, friendly countries, international organizations, nongovernmental organizations for their support and participation in developing education in Laos.
He asked education administrators to raise their sense of responsibility to new heights, strictly abide by law and rules on education, attach attention to educational development and prevent and tackle shortcomings in the educational sector.
He called on teachers to strengthen their responsibility for their noble tasks, continue to learn about new knowledge and transfer it to their students on a regular basis, build up ethics and professional knowledge, and develop creative, diverse, and contemporary teaching methods, as well as use modern technology in transferring knowledge to students in an effective manner.
He asked students to attach attention to their learning, be industrious, and develop themselves to be good students, good children, good citizens, and competent successors for national task in the future.
He urged Party and government organisations, mass organizations, parents, communities, business community and society to contribute according to their roles to making students and children realize the importance of education especially to the development of their future and the nation, and making education the shared duties and responsibility of everyone in the society.
